One of the best features of the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale is its ability to be customized to the user’s preferences, including weight.

If you prefer to weigh food in pounds, you can use the Unit button once the device is powered on to change your weight measurement preference.

Note that you may observe ounce measurements even after your scale is set to pounds, as 16 ounces make up one pound.

Install Batteries in your Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale

Two batteries are included and installed with each Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale purchase.

AAA batteries are widely available, so you can purchase and replace them easily. If your Etekcity Scale says “Lo,” the batteries need to be replaced.

Even though the batteries are installed in new scales, owners must remove the battery cover on the bottom of the device and pull out the plastic safety tab.

Place the Scale on a Hard, Flat Surface

When using your Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale, you should always be sure it is placed firmly on a hard, flat surface, such as a countertop or table.

Avoid placing delicate items like towels under it.

This is an important step because using the scale on a soft surface may yield an inaccurate weight measurement because the scale may need to be more steady.

Turn the Scale On

Once your scale has batteries installed and is positioned firmly on your preferred hard, flat surface, you can turn the device on.

This step involves pressing the on/off button directly to the left of the LCD screen on the front top of the scale.

You will know the scale has been turned on when the screen lights up, and the display populates with the weight measurement, which should be set to zero when first turned on.

Throughout using your scale, you may observe that the LCD panel is not lit. This is normal, as the panel only stays illuminated for 30 seconds of inactivity.

After two minutes, the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale will turn off completely. If that happens, it isn’t broken; you need to power it on again using the power button.

If something isn’t right and your Etekcity Scale isn’t working, we’ve got some great fixes for you to try.

Setting the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale to Pounds

Now that your scale is powered on, you can move on to set your scale to pounds!

To set the device to pounds, press the Unit button to the right of the screen, which will display the unit of measurement in the upper left-hand corner.

Press the button several times until you see “Lb.” the abbreviation for pounds, shown on the scale’s digital screen.

Resetting the Weight Measurement

Once your unit of measurement is set to pounds, you won’t need to reset the scale’s weight measurement to pounds the next time it is turned on! The setting will remain the same.

You will only need to reset the measurement when you replace the batteries, and you can do so quickly and easily by following the same steps outlined above!

Other Units of Measurement on the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale

Besides pounds, the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale can display the following measurements:

  • Grams (g)
  • Milliliters (ml)
  • Fluid ounces (fl oz)
  • Ounces (oz)

Note that even when your scale is set to pounds, you will see ounces if your item weighs less than one pound or does not exactly meet an even pound measurement.

On the scale, ounces, 16 of which make up a pound, are shown in increments of .035 and show along with a pound measurement, while grams and milliliters are shown in increments of 1.

If your Etekcity Scales shows “C,” it means there is a problem with the weight.

Measurement Capabilities and their Uses

Note that different foods may require the use of different units of measurement:

  • Grams are a good choice for measuring very small quantities of a solid. There are approximately 28 grams in one ounce.
  • Ounces are best for measuring smaller quantities of a solid, specifically those weighing less than one pound but registering as more than 28 grams.
  • Pounds are the standard unit of measurement for larger or non-liquid items. The measurements between pounds will show as ounces on the scale.
  • Milliliters are the best unit of measurement for very small amounts of liquid. There are approximately 30.5 milliliters in one fluid ounce.
  • Fluid ounces should be used to measure greater quantities of liquid. When measuring liquids on the scale, consider the weight of the liquid’s vessel.

Conclusion

Following these four steps, you can set your Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale to pounds to efficiently measure food each time the scale is powered on and used!
